Wells Fargo Stagecoach

Traditional style Coach

The Western style stagecoaches - built by the Abbot-Downing Co. of Concord, NH - were used by Wells Fargo to transport gold, mail, and passengers throughout the rugged Western Territory. The nine -passenger body was more heavily ironed than the Eastern model, with leather roll-down curtains, leather front boot, and fully enclosed leather rear boot. We replicate our coaches from Abbot- Downing # 599 which can be seen at the Wells Fargo Museum in Los             Angeles, CA. Check out more detailed pictures.

Wisconson Historical Stagecoach

 Built for Rugged Commercial Use

This is used at the Wisconsin Historical Society.  It has a simple design with minimal ornamentation. All hardware has a rust patina finish. When combined with the wood stained finish it gives this coach a historic used appearance.  Roller bearing wheels were used on this coach because it is impossible to use hydraulic brakes with wood bearing wheels. “We could not be more pleased with the reproduction stagecoach crafted by Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop. The workmanship is stunning and is admired by colleagues and visitors alike. As a museum-quality piece, the coach convincingly helps bring to life our site's story of plank road stagecoach travel in the 1850's and 1860's.”

History

The Concord Coach was the finest road vehicle of its time - a supreme achievement of American stage building. The Coach was frequently painted a brilliant red with elaborate ornamentation and scenic paintings on the doors. The undercarriage and wheels were usually a straw yellow, which made road dust less visible. Nothing is more typical of the history of the settlement of the West than the Concord Stagecoach. The Concord Coach epitomizes the glory of that era, and came to be the true romantic symbol of the Old West.
