Casey Tibbs Trail Ride

Casey Tibbs Trail Ride3For the second year in a row the Verendrye Museum sponsored the annual trail ride. This year it was dedicated to Casey Tibbs, a world champion bronco rider in the 1950’s. On August 10th the trail riders gathered northeast of Mission Ridge, near the old site of Fort Bennett. The trip was roughly 60 miles long, places of interest along the way were the famed Triple U Buffalo Ranch, home to one of the largest buffalo herds in the world and also the location where parts of the movie “Dances with Wolves” was filmed. The ride was stretched over 4 days, arriving in Ft. Pierre for the grand opening of the new Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center. The grand opening celebration was from the 14th-16th.
