Understanding the difference between an appraisal and an evaluation can help determine which service best fits your needs.
Appraisal
An appraisal is a professional assessment of a vehicle’s value. This may include:
- Market (Liquidation) Value — what the vehicle could reasonably be expected to bring at auction.
- Insurance (Replacement) Value — the estimated cost to replace the vehicle. Appraisals are typically used for insurance coverage, resale, or charitable donation purposes.
Evaluation
An evaluation is a comprehensive report of a vehicle or collection. It is a more in-depth study that includes:
- Condition and structural integrity
- Historical attributes and craftsmanship
- Provenance and documented history
- Overall relevance within a collection
An evaluation may or may not include an appraisal, depending on your needs.
This service is especially valuable for larger collections, helping identify redundancies or items that may fall outside the scope of the collection. It is also ideal for gaining a deeper understanding of rare or unique vehicles.
