This impressive French Gribeauval Howitzer Field Cannon features a custom-built carriage and limber, constructed by Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop for Fort Meigs. The carriage was specially fitted with an original howitzer barrel, blending authentic 18th-century artillery craftsmanship with precise historical replication.
A defining characteristic of the French Gribeauval gun carriage is its distinctive bowed spokes and heavily dished wheels—hallmarks of this renowned artillery design. Every piece of hardware was hand-forged in period-correct style, and the heavy hardwood carriage was built in accordance with De Scheel’s Treatise on Artillery, ensuring historical accuracy down to the finest detail.
Historical Background:
The Gribeauval system, was a French cannon and part of the system developed by Jean-Baptiste Vaquette de Gribeauval.
It was first used for major operations in the American Revolutionary War, and especially at the Siege of Yorktown in 1781. The system had been adopted by the French army on October 15, 1765, but kept secret from foreign powers and conservative officers of the French Royal Army. The system included 4, 8, and 12-pounder field pieces.

Q&A
Question: How do you ship this vehicle to me?
Answer: We coordinate shipments of large freight items - such as our wagons, carriages, and coaches - within a network of private carriers so that your freight is safely transported to your destination without transfer. These are usually coordinated as partial loads in order to save costs, so it can take anywhere between 2 days to 2 weeks to find a ride. They will be transported in enclosed vans that vary from "U-Haul" size box vans to full 53' semi trailers. Contact us for more information and freight quotes. You may also arrange your own shipping through uship.com.
Question: How do I offload this vehicle at delivery?
Answer: If you have a delivery location with a loading dock available this is your best option. However, we can also deliver to any location that a semi-trailer can access. We then recommend coordination with a towing service to use a tilt-bed wrecker truck. The vehicle can be rolled off the trailer onto the bed of the wrecker truck and it will be tilted/lowered down to the ground from there.
