Q&A

  • Question: Do I need to put a bushing in these wheels?
    • Answer: No, the wheel rotates directly on the axle spindle with a straight bore to accomodate the axle as-is. The wheel/axle assembly will need regular oiling/greasing to work properly.
  • Question: My axle is rotating. What should I do?
    • Answer: The axle should be fixed tightly so that the wheel will rotate on the axle spindle. It will need lubrication so that the wheel turns freely on the axle.

To resolve this, remount the axle to the cart tightly, then remove the wheels from the spindle and do the following:

      1. If you have a metal hub you can lubricate the spindle and washers with motor oil or grease. If the wood hub wheel rides directly on the spindle you use beeswax/candle wax/paste wax, or even Vaseline.
      2. Replace the wheel on the spindle without the retaining nut, assure that the wheel spins freely.
      3. Adjust the fit of the nut to the point of just starting to add friction to the rotation of the wheel. Do not completely tighted against the wheel, the wheel must spin freely on the spindle.
      4. The axle must not turn in the clamp.
      5. Reapply lubricant as needed on a regular schedule
