Historic artifacts just don't get any better than this! The original Yellowstone Touring Coach by Abbot-Downing Company, pictured here, came to us from the Wyoming State Museum with all original wood still intact, but coated in eight layers of paint in varying shades of yellow.
Originally, our intent was to strip the layers of paint and repaint it using information we uncovered during the process. What we found under all those coats of paint convinced one and all that this vehicle was a true artifact worthy of preservation. After reevaluating the project with the museum staff, we settled on a plan to preserve all the original paint as well as the lettering on one side of the coach. The original lettering on the other side of the coach was not as complete, so we opted to replicate the lettering giving it an aged appearance.
